Dr. Mary A. Maness Gaston became Director of Adult Education for the School District of Pickens County in 2001. With over 25 years experience in our school district, Dr. Gaston has taught high school, elementary school, and served as Coordinator of Parent Education and Family Literacy.
Dr. Gaston received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Judson College, Master of Education from Georgia State University, Reading Specialist certification through Furman University, and Administrative Certification through Clemson University. In 2006, she earned her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She received the Outstanding Dissertation Award from Nova Southeastern for her work in helping adult educators integrate technology into their classrooms.
She is a current board member and past president of the South Carolina Association of Adult Education Directors and is a member of the Commission on Adult and Basic Education and the SC Association of Adult and Community Education. She was named SC Adult Education Director of the Year in 2005 and a "SC Year of the Child Hero" by the Office of the Governor in 2001. She serves on the local Workforce Investment Board.
Dr. Gaston is the mother of two adult children, has one grandson, and resides with her husband outside of Easley. She, her husband, and two children all graduated from Easley High School.
